All time great Mickey Mantle (.311/.394, .530, 23 HR, 87 RBI) finished 3rd in the MVP voting while fellow Hall of Famer Yogi Berra (30 HR, 98 RBI) was 4th. Phil Rizzuto had 89 runs. Allie Reynolds (20-8, 2.06), Vic Raschi (16-6, 2.78) and Eddie Lopat (10-5, 2.53) gave the Yankees a strong trio at the top of the rotation. The Yankees beat the Dodgers in 7 games for their 4th consecutive World Series title.
Buster Posey was the NL MVP as he led the NL with a .336 AVG and had 24 HR, 103 RBI. Melky Cabrera hit .346, with 84 runs in 113 games before being suspended. Matt Cain (16-5, 2.79), Madison Bumgarner (16-11, 3.37) and Ryan Vogelsong (14-9, 3.37) led the rotation. Santiago Casilla (2.84 ERA, 25 SV), Sergio Romo (1.79 ERA, 14 SV), Jeremy Affeldt (2.70 ERA) and Javier Lopez (2.50 ERA) led the bullpen, which was the strength of the team. The Giants swept the Tigers in the World Series for the 2nd of 3 World Series titles under Bruce Bochy.
Game 1: Mickey Mantle and Gene Woodling hit solo home runs in the 4th and Mantle added a RBI single in the 5th to give the Yankees the only runs they needed and got in a 3-2 win. Mantle was the only player in the game with two hits. Allie Reynolds (2 R in 9 IP, CG) outpitched Madison Bumgarner (3 R (2 ER) in 6 IP). Hunter Pence homered for the Giants.
