The Dodgers had 5 Hall of Famers in their lineup. Jackie Robinson led the NL with a .440 OBP, while hitting .308 AVG, 104 runs, 19 HR, .904 OPS. Gil Hodges hit 32 HR, 102 RBI, .386 OBP, .500 SLG, .886 OPS. Roy Campanella hit 22 HR, .805 OPS, 97 RBI. Duke Snider hit .303/.368/.494, .863 OPS, 21 HR, 92 RBI. Pee Wee Reese led the NL with 30 SB and had 94 runs. Carl Eskine (14-6, 2.70), Billy Loes (13-8, 2.69) and Preacher Roe (11-2, 3.12) led the rotation. The Dodgers lost to the Yankees in 7 games in the World Series.

All-time great Mike Schmidt led the NL with 40 HR, 128 walks and .399 OBP while having a .524 SLG, .923 OPS, 109 RBI. Fellow greats Joe Morgan (.773 OPS) and Pete Rose (.602 OPS) were at the end of their careers, while Hall of Famer Tony Perez (.687 OPS) played in 91 games coming off the bench. Hall of Famer Steve Carlton led the NL with 283.2 IP and 275 K while he had his last good season (15-16, 3.11). John Denny had a career-year winning the Cy Young Award (19-6, 2.37). The Phillies lost to the Orioles in 5 games in the World Series.

Game 1: After the Phillies jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Dodgers got 4 in the 4th on a 3 run home run by Gil Hodges and a RBI double by Carl Erskine. Carl Furillo added a 2 run homer in the 8th for a 6-1 Dodgers win. Furillo had 3 hits (2 RBI) while Hodges (3 RBI, 2 runs), Jackie Robinson (1 run) and Erskine all had 2 hits for the Dodgers. Erskine (1 R in 9 IP, 5 H, 10 K, 2 BB) earned a complete game win. John Denny (4 R (3 ER) in 6 IP) took the loss.
